Rotherham United are eyeing a deal to sign free agent Bruce Anderson as they seek new striking options.
Incoming boss Alex Bruce is on the lookout for a number nine after the sale of Sam Nombe to MK Dons, with the Millers reportedly recouping most of the transfer fee they paid for him.
Anderson Deal Possible
According to the Daily Record’s Scott Burns, Rotherham have now identified a new striking option to sign ahead of the new season in the form of free agent Bruce Anderson.
The 27-year-old left Scottish Premiership side Kilmarnock at the end of the season after two seasons at Rugby Park, and is now being coveted by the South Yorkshire side, who are keen on reaching an agreement.
Anderson played 42 times at the Ayrshire club last season, scoring five times and providing two assists in a campaign where they battled against relegation, finishing in 10th place.
He is yet to play in English football, having also appeared for Livingston, Aberdeen and Hamilton Academical across his career.
Rotherham have explored other free agent options in their pre-season preparations, having handed former Miller Kyle Vassell a one-match trial after he impressed on the PFA’s own training camp.
A Wise Move For Rotherham?
While not a standout across his career as of yet, Bruce Anderson could prove to be a useful option to have in the ranks at Rotherham United.
With just three double-figure hauls across his whole time in the Scottish Premiership, it is hard to see whether he could prove to be the best replacement to the outgoing Sam Nombe.
But if his final campaign at Kilmarnock is anything to go by, he could be a hidden gem for any League Two side, having ranked highly in terms of his xG and number of touches inside the opposition’s penalty area.
So while he may not be the biggest standout name for Rotherham to move for, Anderson may be a more than suitable signing to try and help them stop their slide further and further down the EFL.
