Leyton Orient are remaining firm in their valuation of star man Dom Ballard and have rejected a second offer from Bristol City, according to reports.
The 21-year-old joined the O’s last summer from Championship outfit Southampton. Brought in to replace the goals left by former loanee Charlie Kelman, there was little doubt he had big shoes to fill.
It proved to be one of the best pieces of business in League One. Ballard shone as Orient struggled, with his 23 league goals playing a huge role in helping his side avoid relegation.
It was no surprise to see the striker sweep the end of season awards. He picked up both the League One Player and Young Player of the Season accolade, whilst also earning a place in the Team of the Season.
Bristol City Leading Chase
Ballard has become hot property this summer, with a host of clubs lining up for his signature. He has been linked with the likes of West Ham United, Swansea City and Werder Bremen, but it is Bristol City that have taken the lead thus far.
With new manager Michael Skubala hoping to build a team capable of pushing for at least a place in the Championship play-offs, the former Cambridge United loanee has surged to the top of his list. An initial bid of £2.5 million was knocked back last week.
It was then claimed that Orient are holding out for £5 million, although the Robins appear undeterred by that valuation. According to journalist Alan Nixon, an improved offer of £3 million plus a range of extras has been submitted, but this has too been rejected.
Southampton Clause A Factor
When Ballard left Southampton for Orient last summer, he signed a three-year deal at the BetWright Stadium. Although the figure they paid for the youngster was undisclosed, it is thought to have been a nominal fee.

Therefore, the Saints protected their interests by inserting a hefty sell-on clause. The Daily Echo placed the clause at 22%, but Nixon puts the figure at closer to 25%.
This means that Orient are well within their rights to dig their heels in and demand their full asking price. There is no indication that Ballard is keen to move on quickly and it does seem like it’s just a matter of time before somebody meets the valuation.
Bristol City are trying hard to get the deal done, but it could spark West Ham into life. The Hammers interest is said to have been delayed pending the arrival of a new Director of Player Recruitment. That saga came to an end yesterday following the appointment of Nils Koppen.

I think the lad had a great last season but if not replicated valuation could plummet and the chance of regular championship football vanish as if he went whu I think he’d be warming the bench a lot of the time or even sent out on loan
