Sheffield Wednesday will continue to scour the free agency market as they look to make final additions to their squad.
The Owls had a complete overhaul of their squad in Arise Capital’s first window in charge at Hillsborough, with the club finally free to enter the market, albeit with an EFL-agreed spending cap.
They are poised to confirm another deal following the close of the transfer window on Tuesday, with the deal to sign Wrexham’s Davis Keillor-Dunn expected to be completed today after it was agreed with just an hour to go before the deadline.
Pedersen Confirms Transfer Work Continues
In the build up to the final week of the window, Henrik Pedersen had stated that Wednesday will be continuing their search of the free-agency market, and has now restated that commitment when speaking to the Sheffield Star after their midweek win over Wycombe Wanderers.
“Yes, we are searching the market to see if there could be one or two. But yes I am looking forward to speaking with them (senior figures at the club) when we are coming in to see what is the situation.”
“It’s a difficult market sometimes. But yes, we are searching all that we can, to see if there is someone who can help us and make us stronger. I’m really, really pleased with the squad we have. I think we have a strong squad. So it has to be a really good player if we have to do something.”
Reports on Deadline Day had linked the Owls with a potential swoop for Elliot Lee, with Pete O’Rourke reporting that they were one of several clubs poised to offer him a deal upon the termination of his Wrexham contract.
A homecoming for veteran striker Jamie Vardy has also been touted, with the Guardian reporting on their Rumour Mill page that they face competition from the Red Dragons and Brazilian side Sao Paulo.
Business Should Be Informed By Barry Update
It has been a very strong window from Sheffield Wednesday when considering the situation they found themselves in at the start of the summer, but it seems they are still looking to make a few more moves.
While Elliot Lee and Jamie Vardy could be shrewd additions, and in the latter’s case a more sentimental move, the Owls will want to be more reactive based on the needs of their squad.
That is especially the case in the wake of their win over Wycombe Wanderers, which saw Louie Barry leave Adams Park on crutches after suffering a nasty injury just off the field of play during the match.
With no news as to their summer signing’s status as of yet, there may be a nervous wait as to whether one of their new additions should be a winger, and one who can provide backup to Kieran Morrison on the right wing.
An experienced League One addition could be made on a short-term contract in the form of Marcus Forss, who is still on the search for a club after his Middlesbrough exit, and played his part in helping Bolton Wanderers win in the playoffs last season.
