Forest Green Rovers could make a move towards appointing a new manager after they were reportedly revealed to be the club which approached Ebbsfleet United for manager Josh Wright.

The Nailsworth club have been on the lookout for a new boss in the wake of Robbie Savage’s exit to join League One side Peterborough United, having yet to play a game since the Welshman’s exit.

Surprise Move Revealed

However, they could have taken a major step towards appointing a new coach to lead the New Lawn club in their quest for an EFL return, with KentOnline picking up on reports that FGR have approached Ebbsfleet United for their manager, Josh Wright.

Pete O’Rourke of Football Insider reported yesterday that an unnamed side had made a move to try and recruit the 36-year-old from Stonebridge Road, having undergone a shaky period of uncertainty, which included their first six National League South games being postponed.

Having overseen Ebbsfleet since December 2024, Wright is now in his second full season of coaching, having failed to stop the club’s relegation from the fifth tier, before narrowly missing out on a playoff place on goal difference in his last campaign.

So far, after five games played, the Fleet are stuck in the relegation zone, but have had an unbeaten start with two wins and three draws, and are eight points behind the playoff places.

Would Josh Wright Be A Good Fit At FGR?

Forest Green Rovers are now seemingly closing in on a new manager, and in Josh Wright, they have an intriguing but promising candidate available to them if they can get a deal over the line.

Having done similarly when bringing Robbie Savage to the club, Dale Vince has been willing to hand up-and-coming managers at lower-league sides a chance to prove themselves, and given the character and leadership the former midfielder has shown in the crisis at Ebbsfleet United, he could be a perfect fit.

With a transfer embargo and postponed games looming over the opening of their season, they have come out of the traps strong, and if they can maintain their form as they get back level to their rivals in games played, they could be firmly in the promotion picture.

Certainly deserving of a shot at a club like Forest Green which will be able to back him in the market consistently, Wright could be the perfect addition to lead them back into the EFL if they afford him 18 months to get to grips with his squad.

That would certainly prove to be the biggest blow to Ebbsfleet United’s hopes for the near future, but if they can gain some good compensation for the 36-year-old, that could do wonders for their own situation.
