Woking have been handed a major morale boost, ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup qualifier against league leaders Boreham Wood, following a decision regarding one of their standout performers.
The Cardinals are currently 15th in the National League after a quarter of the season, but have won just four matches thus far and sit just three points above the relegation zone.
Whilst the club haven’t necessarily stood out thus far, Craig Ross’ side have had some standout individuals including experienced forward John Marquis and winger Matt Ward, but it’s one of their loan players that has left also left a significant impression.
Woking confirm transfer boost
The loanee in question is versatile wing-back Jaiden Putman, who recently joined Woking on a short-term loan deal from Championship side Queens Park Rangers

However, the defender’s loan deal was set to expire this week, unless an agreement between all parties could be reached to extend the deal further.
Fortunately, an update via Woking’s social media on Wednesday confirmed that Putman has had his loan deal extended with the club, until the end of the 2026/27 season, as a result of his impressive performances for Ross’s men thus far.
The 20-year-old has featured 12 times for Woking across all competitions, providing two assists in matches against Boston United and Carlisle United.
Putman’s loan spell hasn’t been all joy thus far, with Putman recently serving a suspension after being shown a straight red card against Solihull Moors in September, after a lash out at Joe Sbarra.
Learning-curve aside, Putman returned to action in mid-week against Leicester City’s U21s in the National League Cup and will be looking to kick on once again.
Is this the correct decision for all parties?
QPR’s Academy are no stranger to non-League loan spells, with Putman being the latest in a long list of loanees over the last few seasons.
Having noticed that the 20-year-old is playing week in and out for Woking, contributing goals and becoming popular amongst supporters, it should come as no surprise that they were happy to extend his deal further.
Putman himself has been a standout for Woking with his performances as well as his ability to play as either a full-back, wing-back or winger for Ross thus far.

His red card against Solihull could act as a significant learning curve for the 20-year-old, allowing him to potentially play with more maturity in his game – thus making him better but also improving his maturity on the pitch.
Similarly, with the EFL transfer window shut until January, had QPR opted against extending his contract, the defender would either be limited to another National League loan or would spend the next few months playing youth football – potentially impacting his current development plan.
