Wigan Athletic are considering making Scott Hogan a contract offer should they fail in their hopes of recruiting a new forward before deadline day.
The Latics are on the lookout for new options to replace Joe Taylor’s output from last season, having already brought in the duo of Sonny Perkins and Akeel Higgins to play alongside Dara Costelloe.
Hogan Option Revealed
Gary Caldwell has been putting the final touches on his side throughout the last week of the window, with Joe Whitworth set to arrive from Crystal Palace on a permanent basis, while Luca Woodhouse has been a key target after two bids were sent to Exeter City.
However, there is still some more work to be done, with a new striker coveted amid Taylor’s exit and a pre-season injury blow to Christian Saydee limiting his involvement in the opening rounds of the campaign.
According to Alan Nixon through his Patreon channel, the Latics could make a deal for trialist Scott Hogan, who has been training with the club for the past month.
The Irish forward has been without a club since the end of his MK Dons contract this summer, and has been helping out on the pitch in Lancashire ahead of their season starting earlier this month, including an appearance against Southport in a friendly.
While Wigan are looking for other options on the transfer market, it is believed that should they fail to secure a target, they could make an offer to the 34-year-old, with the club willing to wait until the window closes before making a final decision.
Hogan started just two games for MK Dons last season in League Two, making 20 appearances overall and scoring just once against Shrewsbury Town at the start of the season.

While they have made some very positive progress with Joe Whitworth expected to arrive imminently, there is perhaps a greater need to add a final striker to their ranks while they can still find one.
At 34, Scott Hogan is without a club and could ultimately be called upon by Gary Caldwell to become a Latics player, but he is seemingly the plan B for the club as it stands.
With an uninspiring record last season at MK Dons, having played second fiddle to Calum Paterson, the former Birmingham City man does add some depth to the club, but whether it is enough to step up for the League One club regularly remains another question.
