The Owls have had a summer to forget. Financial issues, players departing for free and cut-price fees, and fan protests continuing into the season.
They’ve sold Djeidi Gassama and Anthony Musaba for low fees, and seen Michael Smith and Josh Windass both walk away from their contracts after late payments.
With their squad thin and no new signings, the Owls are working hard to make sure Bailey Cadamarteri doesn’t depart the club.
Sheffield Wednesday Wants to Keep Bailey Cadamarteri
The Star have shared the Owls’ stance on the future of Cadamarteri after the same outlet confirmed that Wednesday had received offers for him.
Despite the financial issues at Hillsborough, the Owls are not entertaining offers for the young forward.
Blackburn Rovers and bitter rivals Sheffield United both submitted bids for ‘Cadz’, but the Owls rejected both. The offers were reported to be for around £1 million. It’s a relatively low figure, given the ability and age of Cadamarteri, but the situation at Wednesday is such that clubs are willing to test their willpower.
How Important is This News for Sheffield Wednesday?
Keeping Cadamarteri is big news for the Owls. The youngster has started all four of the Owls’ Championship games. In those four games, he’s scored one goal and received an average rating of 6.68 from Sofascore.
At the time of writing, it looks like the Owls won’t be able to make any new additions. They were close to signing Jaden Heskey; however, that deal has been cancelled by the EFL.
Their ongoing financial issues have left the EFL reluctant to allow any players to join the Owls. The EFL are requiring Dejphon Chansiri to prove he can pay the wages for the full season.
It was hoped that an agreement could be reached allowing loans where the parent club would pay the full wages. However, the EFL are set to review each transfer on its own merit, with other factors being considered.
Given they aren’t likely to make any new signings, making sure players such as Cadamarteri don’t leave is crucial for Sheffield Wednesday this season.
