League Two side Salford City has agreed a permanent deal to sign Daniel Udoh from Wycombe Wanderers in the closing hours of deadline day.
They have made a steady start to the campaign, claiming ten points from their opening six league matches. However, in a last-ditch attempt to bolster their frontline, they appear to have secured a proven EFL goal scorer.
The ChairBoys remain winless so far this season, and leave themselves with a last-minute scramble to replace the Nigerian.
Having started up front in Saturday’s defeat to Stevenage, this latest development is likely to leave Wycombe’s fans scratching their heads.
Salford City Attract EFL Stalwart
Daniel Udoh has enjoyed a well-travelled career thus far in English football, spanning over a decade across the divisions.
His most notable stint came in Shropshire during his five-year stay at Shrewsbury Town. Here, he made 155 appearances for the Shrews, predominantly in League One.
His most memorable contribution was when he famously gave Shrewsbury the lead against Liverpool at Anfield in an FA Cup third-round tie.
Now, as reported by Pete O’Rourke, the 29-year-old will move to the Peninsula Stadium to begin another new chapter.
He hopes to rival Cole Stockton and Kallum Cesay for the starting berth under Karl Robinson.
Why Are Wycombe Parting Ways With Udoh?
Udoh has been the first-choice striking option in these early weeks of the season for Wycombe boss Mike Dodds. For that reason, his seemingly imminent exit from Adams Park may come as a shock to the Wanderers faithful.
It’s already been a difficult summer window, which has seen them lose last season’s standout player, Richard Kone, and, more recently, club legend Gareth McLeary leave.
But there is still time for one final cruel twist as another source of goals heads for pastures new.
He made 43 appearances last season for the Buckinghamshire outfit, scoring eight goals in the process. His move to Salford, especially this late in proceedings, will do little to cheer up the loyal Wycombe Wanderers support.
