Sheffield Wednesday Star Makes Loan Admission Following Wimbledon Demolition

Sheffield Wednesday‘s Davis Keillor-Dunn has admitted he expects discussions around extending his loan move following his starring performance against AFC Wimbledon.

The former Barnsley man came back to South Yorkshire on loan from Wrexham and has finally earned his place in the Owls’ starting lineup with starts in each of his last three League One appearances.

He finally got off the mark in spectacular fashion in the third tier at the weekend, with two goals and an assist, playing a key role in Wednesday’s 5-0 demolition of Wimbledon, putting Henrik Pedersen’s side back in the top six with games in hand on the teams above them.

Keillor-Dunn Touts Loan Extension

Speaking after the win at Hillsborough, the forward told the media that his move away from Wrexham was able to give him a breath of fresh air after struggling to break through in North Wales. (Quotes via Yorkshire Post):

“I got one in the Jersey Mike’s Trophy, but it was great to get a couple in front of the Hillsborough faithful. It’s just fantastic playing your football in front of these fans.

“I was really desperate (to score in the league). Normally I wouldn’t really do a knee slide, but the past few months I’ve not really played regular football so it was a little bit of relief just to get that first one.

“Match-fitness is totally different to training, and getting 15, 20 minutes here and there is quite tough as a player, especially a player like myself, who’s gone from playing most weeks, 90 minutes.

“It was really good to get a fresh start, play games and just feel the love a little bit again.”

Keillor-Dunn managed just nine appearances for the Red Dragons after his January deadline-day move from Barnsley, but was unable to displace Sam Smith and Kieffer Moore in Phil Parkinson’s plans.

With Bailey Cadamarteri also waiting in the wings for a chance, it was decided that the 28-year-old would head out on loan, allowing Wednesday to swoop for his services amid reported interest from Blackburn Rovers and Bolton Wanderers.

Speaking about a potential extension to his time at Hillsborough beyond the initial agreement to send him back to the Racecourse in January, Keillor-Dunn added:

“I’ve still got a long-term contract at Wrexham, but I love it here. I want to be playing regularly, and that’s all. He’s very understanding, the manager at Wrexham (Phil Parkinson). He knows I want to play most weeks and have an impact.

“What better place to come than Hillsborough and Sheffield? It’s initially just until January, but I’m sure the club will be in talks with Wrexham, trying to get things extended.

“We’ll just take each game as it comes, just one step at a time.”

Should Wednesday Gamble On Loan Extension?

After a rough start, Davis Keillor-Dunn has now picked up the performance he needed to create belief he can replicate the performances he dazzled League One with at Barnsley.

Sheffield Wednesday’s major concern in their squad-building plans across the summer was finding a proven talisman to lead the line, and while Mason Burstow looked to be the initial choice to fill that role, it seems that the Hull City man has now been overtaken.

With plenty of competition up front, considering Ali Al-Hamadi and Jamal Lowe’s ability to also spearhead the attack, perhaps Henrik Pedersen could afford to allow at least one of those four to leave the club in January.

It is a decision that should not be taken now, but if Davis Keillor-Dunn can replicate his AFC Wimbledon performance over the next few weeks, then it would be a more than sensible choice to try and agree a loan extension with Wrexham.
