Salford City manager Peter Cklamovski has warned his players against complacency after the League Two leaders extended their remarkable winning streak to eight matches. The Australian has overseen a dramatic turnaround since his appointment in June, but insists his side have achieved nothing yet.
Saturday’s 2-1 comeback victory over Exeter City extended Salford’s unbeaten league run to 11 matches, with Will Aimson scoring a spectacular 88th-minute winner after Luke Garbutt had cancelled out Sonny Cox’s first-half opener. Despite their impressive form, Cklamovski remains determined to keep his players focused on the challenges ahead rather than their position at the top of the table.
Cklamovski Issues Warning to Salford Players
Speaking after Saturday’s victory, the 47-year-old acknowledged the momentum his team have built but stressed that their recent success would count for little unless they maintained their standards throughout the campaign.
As reported by Salford Now, Cklamovski said:
“It means nothing at the moment. We’ve got to really just stay focused and look at the table at round 46.”
The Salford boss also highlighted the importance of respecting every opponent and ensuring his players remained committed to their preparation. His cautious approach comes despite a remarkable run of results that has transformed Salford into one of League Two’s leading promotion contenders.
Saturday’s victory was particularly impressive given Exeter had arrived unbeaten in their previous five league matches and appeared on course to secure a point before Aimson’s late intervention. Cklamovski admitted he had initially been urging the defender not to shoot before his long-range effort secured another three points for the Ammies.
The result provided further evidence of Salford’s ability to overcome difficult situations, although their manager is refusing to allow the winning streak to become a distraction. With the Ammies now five points clear at the summit, expectations surrounding their promotion prospects are likely to increase.
Remarkable Turnaround Since June Appointment
Cklamovski was appointed Salford manager on 18 June 2026, replacing Karl Robinson following a spell in charge of the Malaysian national team. The Australian had previously worked alongside former Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou and gained extensive coaching experience in Japan.
However, his introduction to English league football proved challenging, with Salford losing their opening three league fixtures of the campaign. The response was impressive, as the Ammies collected 13 points from a possible 15 during September, earning Cklamovski the division’s Manager of the Month award.
According to efl.com, the Australian credited his players and coaching staff for their commitment to the team’s development following that difficult start. Salford have since continued their rise, establishing themselves at the summit of League Two and strengthening their hopes of securing promotion.
Their next challenge comes away to Carlisle United in the FA Cup first round on Saturday before they return to league action against Northampton Town on 14 November. For Cklamovski, however, the message remains clear: Salford’s impressive start will only matter if they can maintain their standards across the full 46-match season.
