Notts County’s preparations for their League One season continue as they have triggered a six-figure release clause for a midfielder.
County were promoted via the League Two play-offs last season and are steadily making improvements to their side for their return to the third tier.
With just over a week to go until the start of the new season, Notts County have triggered the release clause for Northampton Town midfielder Dean Campbell.

Pete O’Rourke shared on X that County have triggered Campbell’s £200,000 release clause.
The midfielder is now set to have a medical at the club and will sign a three-year deal.
The Magpies have beaten several EFL clubs and clubs in Scotland to the signing of Campbell this summer, with the player making the choice to join County.
25-Year-Old Impresses at Northampton
Campbell played 42 League One games for Northampton last season, receiving an average Sofascore rating of 7.03 — the highest in the Cobblers side.
He led the side in assists, creating five goals across the league campaign. Campbell also created nine further big chances and averaged 1.2 key passes per game.
The 25-year-old also did his part defensively for Northampton. He finished the campaign with 0.7 interceptions per game, 1.9 tackles per game, 1.6 clearances per game, and recovered 4.5 balls per game.
His standout game last season came in the Cobblers’ 2-0 defeat to Reading. Campbell received an 8.2 Sofascore rating, creating one big chance, contributing four key passes and had a pass accuracy of 84%.
He also recorded four defensive contributions, seven recoveries and won 100% of his ground and aerial duels.
How Big is This Signing for Notts County?
Signing Campbell is a step in the right direction for the Magpies.
Campbell showed last season he is capable of not just competing at this level, but he’s capable of being one of the better players on the pitch each game.
He will add quality to the County midfield and help them with their ambitions ahead of the League One season.
It’s also a sign of the project at Notts County. Campbell picked the side over other EFL clubs and clubs in Scotland.
Campbell could end up being a fantastic signing for County this season, and a player they make financial profit on in the future.
