Previously linked MK Dons target Sam Nombe is on the precipice of being sold by Rotherham United following their relegation to League Two.
Paul Warne’s side have reportedly held interest in the 27-year-old forward, with Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke revealing earlier in the month that the Millers rejected a £500,000 bid for their talisman.
Bruce Confirms Inevitable
Rotherham’s relegation has led to a shake-up in their playing squad ahead of the upcoming season, especially after criticism from previous interim boss Lee Clark that many players were not giving their full effort in their battle against the drop.
Nombe’s exit has been deemed as increasingly likely over the past few days, with Alex Bruce confirming that they are waiting for a bid at the right price in order to sanction a sale.
Now, in an update to the Rotherham Advertiser about Nombe and what that means for the rest of their transfer business, Bruce said:
“Bids are in and I can tell you it’s getting very close. It involves a couple of clubs.
“I need numbers. I think everybody knows that – and I certainly know myself! I’ve said it’s about picking the right personnel. It’s to do with what I have and haven’t got. I don’t want to dive into things and exhaust finances if they’re not there. So, it’s important that I pick the right ones.”
In a previous report, the Advertiser stated that MK Dons have had more than one bid rejected by the South Yorkshire side, who have already been exploring alternative options after news that Kyle Vassell had returned to the club on a one-game trial.
Nombe Could Prove Vital
Having propped up a poor side over the past few seasons, and having joined the club back in their Championship days, it was very likely that Sam Nombe would want to leave Rotherham United now they have entered League Two.
Under new manager Alex Bruce, who has joined following his exit from Salford City, the Millers are in dire need of a full reset, and sanctioning plenty of player exits will be key to try and stop the club from sliding even further down the pyramid.
Sam Nombe is still a striker who can perform at a high level, and a move to MK Dons will certainly help get him back catching the attention of many.
With a better supporting cast around him in Buckinghamshire, such as Nathaniel Méndez-Laing and Ben Wiles, the 27-year-old should be able to take on plenty of more high-quality chances, having already been one of the better forwards in League One for shots taken and put on target.
For a club that is looking to avoid an immediate exit from the third tier, Nombe could be the pivotal signing that does that and perhaps pushes them much higher up the table than expected.
