Millwall are set to sign Peterborough United‘s Kyrell Lisbie after having a reported £3 million bid accepted for the 22-year-old.

The former Braintree Town man moved to Cambridgeshire last summer and immediately hit his stride in his debut EFL season, scoring 14 times and providing seven further assists across 51 appearances.

Lions Continue League One Plunder

Now, according to Sky Sports News’ Peter Smith, Lisbie has now completed a medical at the New Den and will complete a move to the capital for a £3 million fee in the coming days.

It comes after Pete O’Rourke of Football Insider broke the news that the Lions had entered advanced talks, also adding that any move could reach as high as £6 million in future add-ons.

Millwall have had interest in Lisbie since the start of July, with Smith noting Alex Neil’s side were keen on adding a new left-wing option to their ranks as they hope to challenge once more for a first-ever promotion to the Premier League.

The Bermondsey-based club have been keen on some of League One‘s brightest prospects this summer, also sealing a move for Bradford City’s Jenson Metcalfe to kick off their incoming business for the window.

Neil opted to bypass a move for Thierno Ballo at the end of his loan spell from Wolfsberger, with the 24-year-old since joining French outfit Saint Etienne for a reported €2.5 million (£2.13 million) fee, lower than the option in his Millwall deal.

Key Position Filled

With no move for Thierno Ballo and a struggle for real quality options at left wing currently at the club, it was clear that a new left-winger was going to be the priority for Millwall this summer.

A £3 million fee for Kyrell Lisbie may seem steep for a player who has only one year of EFL experience under his belt, but his quality shone through at Peterborough United and that has clearly alerted the attention of the scouts at the New Den, who have frequently eyed deals for League One’s hot prospects.

Whether he can match the demands of a potential Championship promotion race remains to be seen, but his quick adaptation to higher divisions may be a positive sign that he will be able to match the performances of Femi Azeez on the other flank.

For Peterborough United, it is yet another deal which has proven why Darragh MacAnthony and his recruitment model is one to be envied across the country, and at a time when the club is at an ebb, at least £3 million will be key to their recovery.

Having already missed out on a deal for Kyrell’s younger brother in Kyreece Lisbie earlier in the window, his exit now means that a new winger is the top priority on Luke Williams’ recruitment list.
