Lincoln City head coach Michael Skubala has confirmed that defender Adam Reach will miss the remainder of the League One season through injury.

The Imps are preparing to return to action when they welcome AFC Wimbledon to the LNER Stadium on Good Friday.  Sitting seven points clear at the top of the table, the East Midlands-based outfit can secure promotion to the second tier for the first time since 1961 should they better the results of Bolton Wanderers and Stockport County, and match that of Bradford City.

They’ll have to do so without one of their standout performers though, with Reach ruled out until next season. The 33-year-old limped out of their 2-2 draw with Huddersfield Town last month, immediately sparking concerns that his campaign was over.

Reach ‘Gutted’ To Receive Devastating News

The versatile left-sided player joined Lincoln as a free agent last summer and has been a revelation for Michael Skubala. He has been widely touted as one of the signings of the season and has contributed four goals and four assists across 31 League One appearances.

Having revitalised his career at Sincil Bank, Reach would have been desperate to play a role in the upcoming promotion celebrations, but will now be forced to watch from the sidelines. Speaking to the media ahead of Friday’s outing, the head coach confirmed the news:

“He felt it and he thought it could be major. Fortunately for us, I don’t think it’s as major as we first thought, or what the medical staff first thought.

“He’s definitely gutted to be missing the run-in, if you like, the last chapter of the season. But, he’s been great for us. Throughout this season he’s been absolutely excellent.

“It’s gutting for him because he wanted to end it on a good note in terms of the season.”

Towler Set To Benefit

Reach’s absence means that Ryley Towler is likely to be giving a starting berth for the remainder of the campaign. The 23-year-old was signed from Portsmouth last summer and began the campaign at left-back. However, he lost his place following the arrival of the former Sheffield Wednesday man.

The defender was the man who replaced Reach at Huddersfield, eventually going on to score his first goal for the club in dramatic circumstances when he equalised in added time. He then started in the 3-0 win over Rotherham United three days later.

Lincoln are likely to seal promotion this weekend during the Easter double header. They need just four more points to guarantee their place in the Championship and following Friday’s visit of Wimbledon, they travel to play-off chasers Reading on Monday.
