Luton Town have joined the battle to sign Falkirk midfielder Dylan Tait as his future in Scotland remains unclear.
The Bairns have been trying to tie down the 24-year-old down to a new contract in recent weeks, with his current deal in Stirlingshire set to expire at the end of the month.
Negotiations Continue As Luton Emerge
The impasse between club and player has allowed interest to generate from elsewhere, with Plymouth Argyle and Barnsley previously tipped to recruit the former Hibernian man once he hits the free agent market.
Now, according to the Daily Record in Scotland, Luton Town are ready to enter the fray to sign Tait, who is still in talks with Falkirk to try and extend his stay.
Playing an integral part of the Bairns’ promotion to the Championship, the midfielder has continued to shine in John McGynn’s squad with 33 appearances to his name in the top flight.
Also reaching the Scottish FA Cup semi-finals, Falkirk secured a top-half finish in the Premiership, but were unable to pull themselves into European contention upon the split.
However, they are at risk of losing many of their best options this summer, with reports that West Bromwich Albion and Lincoln City have targeted striker Barney Stewart, while Plymouth have eyed a double deal by also pursuing centre-back Liam Henderson.
Will Space Be Made For Tait?
News of Luton Town’s interest in Dylan Tait hints that the Hatters are looking to plan in the eventuality that Liam Walsh or someone else may be moving on this summer.
Kasey Palmer’s return is still in the air despite his desire to return to Kenilworth Road, with that fate perhaps depending on whether Hull City triumph at Wembley over Middlesbrough and put themselves into the Premier League.
Town have offered both Walsh and midfield partner Jordan Clark new deals following the end of the season, meaning that there should be some continuity in the squad if the pair agree to continue on in Bedfordshire.
George Saville remains as a solid backup option and while Davy van den Berg leaves to rejoin Utrecht following his loan spell, chances may be hard to come by for Dylan Tait if he chooses to join the EFL Trophy winners.
As a free transfer it would mark a good piece of business, but considering the other options on the table for the 24-year-old, Town may not be the best destination for him to head to.
