Jack Wilshere has discussed what happened after the final whistle as the Luton Town boss confronted his own fans after the final whistle.

The Hatters let two vital points slip away in their hopes to reach the League One playoffs, with Burton Albion snatching a 92nd-minute leveller through Fabio Tavares.

The result meant that Town have fallen even further behind Huddersfield Town in sixth place, but still remain in touch with a game in hand over the Terriers.

Wilshere Discusses Post-Match Fracas

However, the performance on the pitch was overshadowed by the scenes after the match, with videos showing that Wilshere, who is in his first permanent managerial job, was restrained by his own players as frustrations boiled over.

Speaking to the media following the match, Wilshere discussed the negative reactions from the Kenilworth Road crowd throughout the match. (Quotes via TalkSPORT):

“It wasn’t just the end, it was from the first minute.

“The players were having to face that and right now, in this moment, we have to accept where we are. We’re in League One because of what’s happened in the last couple of years.

“I’m trying to give the players belief but you can clearly see at the moment that they are lacking it and it then becomes difficult to play.

“I understand their frustrations, of course I do, we have to do better in certain moments, but right now everyone has to be together.

“That is the only way that we try to get out of this game, try to move forward and win games. It feels difficult at the moment.”

Toxicity Looms Over Luton

Luton Town’s rapid descent back into League One has left a lot of frustration, with recent years perhaps elevating the expectations of the fanbase.

With the quality of some of their players and the levels of investment made this summer, the Hatters should be competing at the very top end of the table, so for them to have struggled for a large portion of this season, it was inevitable that discontent would come to the fore.

Burton Albion outplayed the hosts for large portions of the match, and Fabio Tavares’ late goal amplified what was a disgruntled atmosphere into something more toxic.

Jack Wilshere’s reign at Luton has been far from ideal, but with the club slightly recovering from their initial woes and playoffs definitely still on the cards, sticking with the Arsenal man until the summer is the right course to bring the club back into the Championship.
