There were plenty of standout performances across League Two on gameweek two, with several players making a decisive impact for their sides.
Here is our Team of the Week after another entertaining round of fixtures.
GK – Bobby Faulkner – Tranmere Rovers
The most remarkable inclusion was Faulkner, who was forced to go in goal following an injury to Harrison Male. The centre-back kept a clean sheet after taking the gloves and helped Tranmere Rovers secure a point in a 1-1 draw at Port Vale.
RB – Tom James – Bristol Rovers
James was composed at the back and offered plenty going forward as Bristol Rovers claimed their first league win of the season. His experience and assist helped the Gas deal with a chaotic Newport County attack in an entertaining 5-3 victory.
CB – Logan Dobbs – Gillingham
Dobbs put in another strong defensive display despite Gillingham being held to a goalless draw by Fleetwood Town. His reading of the game and ability to make important defensive interventions helped the Gills keep a clean sheet following an open-day defeat.
CB – Luca Woodhouse – Exeter City
Woodhouse was excellent at the heart of Exeter City’s defence as they secured their first league win of the campaign. He also provided the assist for Jack Fitzwater’s fantastic early opener in the 2-0 victory over Accrington Stanley.
LB – Billy Kirkman – Swindon Town
Kirkman played his part in a disciplined Swindon performance as they defeated Cheltenham Town 2-1 at the County Ground. He helped the Robins protect their advantage after Ollie Clarke doubled the lead, with Swindon holding on despite a late consolation from Ryan Broom.
CM – Alex Newby – York City
Newby was influential in midfield as York City earned a valuable point away at Rotherham United. His energy and work rate helped York compete throughout a game that finished 1-1 against one of the league’s promotion hopefuls.
CM – Charlie Lakin – Barnet
Lakin was central to another impressive Barnet performance as the Bees continued their perfect start to the League Two season. Barnet produced a superb away display to beat Shrewsbury Town 3-1, with Lakin scoring and assisting, and moved on to six points from their opening two matches.
RM – Oscar Thorn – Colchester United
Thorn was lively for Colchester as they battled back to claim their first win of the campaign against Oldham Athletic. His attacking threat helped keep the visitors under pressure as the U’s completed a late comeback, whilst assisting Harry Anderson’s equaliser.
ST – Fabrizio Cavegn – Bristol Rovers
Cavegn was one of the standout performers in Bristol Rovers’ thrilling win over Newport County. The Swiss got himself on the scoresheet twice as the Gas produced five goals in an eight-goal thriller at the Memorial Stadium.
ST – Christian Doidge – Newport County
Doidge led the line with plenty of experience and physicality during Newport’s entertaining clash with Bristol Rovers. Although Newport ultimately fell to a 5-3 defeat, the veteran striker assisted twice, whilst remaining a constant threat in a game packed with attacking football.
LW – Harry Anderson – Colchester United
Anderson was a key part of Colchester’s comeback as they came from behind to beat Oldham 2-1. Alongside getting the equaliser, his tenacious energy helped the U’s turn the game around and secure their first victory of the season.
