Boreham Wood star Abdul Abdulmalik has expressed his desire to leave the club on his official Instagram account, with the attacker stating he is ‘ready for the next challenge’ after news of a National League record £1.5 million bid from Swedish side Djurgardens IF.
Abdulmalik has been a star ever since his move to the London side, with last season in particular being a standout for the 23-year-old.
He netted 18 times and assisted 10 as he helped guide the Wood to the National League Playoff Final, where Abdulmalik’s goal was not enough as they ultimately lost to Rochdale on penalties at Wembley Stadium.
His fantastic performances gained the attention of Swedish giants, but after multiple rejected bids, the attacker has expressed his desire to make the next step in his career via his official social media account.
Abdulmalik Wants European Move
Abdul Abdulmalik has officially declared his intent to move away from Boreham Wood on his official Instagram account, after a third bid from Djurgardens was rejected by the National League side.
The 23-year-old stated that ‘Opportunities like this are rare, especially within the National League where some of the hardest-working talent is overlooked.’
He also said in his statement that ‘I owe it to myself and the kids growing up just like me to fight for this one I’ve been offered.’
Despite this unorthodox method of expressing his desires to leave the club, it has been no secret that he has been wanting this move for the betterment of his career for a long time now.
Unprofessional or Understandable from Abdulmalik?
We have seen many instances of players expressing desires to leave their club after having interest from bigger clubs, which are often received poorly by football fans. Despite this general consensus, Abdulmalik’s case is different to most.
As he expressed in his statement, opportunities like the one he is being offered do not come around often for players at the National League level, and with a huge fee being offered to Boreham Wood to secure his services, it is not surprising to see the attacker issue a ‘come and get me’ plea to Djurgardens.
The situation will continue to develop in the coming days, but it is now more difficult than ever to see the Wood keeping their star man as he clearly wants to move on to try and develop his career with the Swedish Powerhouses.
