The draw for the FA Cup first round proper will take place on Monday evening, with clubs from League One and Two set to enter the competition.
National League sides begin their campaign in the world’s most famous domestic cup competition this weekend, with the fourth preliminary round taking place tomorrow. Last season’s standout non-league team was Macclesfield, who caused one of the biggest upsets in the competition’s history by beating holders Crystal Palace in the third round.
John Rooney’s side were drawn against Brentford in the fourth round but were unable to repeat their heroics. An own goal from Sam Heathcote ultimately proved the difference between the two teams.
Former Winners Hoping For First Round Berth
Two-time winners Bury will be looking to gain a spot in the first round for the first time since they were expelled from the Football League in 2019. The Greater Manchester-based side have had to work their way back up from the bottom after a takeover deal collapsed at the start of the 2019/20 season, where they had just earned promotion to League One.
They currently sit 11th in the Northern Premier League table as they continue their march back towards the EFL, but they will be hoping they can upset National League high flyers Harrogate Town in their fourth qualifying round clash tomorrow lunchtime.
Elsewhere, there are opportunities for two ninth-tier teams to create history. SE Dons from the Southern Counties East Premier Division travel to Sholing of the Southern League Premier Division South, whilst Tadley Calleva face a sterner task at the National League’s Aldershot Town.
