A twist has occurred in Bolton Wanderers’ pursuit of Wrexham’s Ryan Hardie, with their promotion rivals Huddersfield Town now making a late move to secure the striker’s services before the 7 pm deadline.
Bolton have been particularly busy in the transfer window, securing a fresh forward line of Reuben Rodrigues, Rob Apter, and Corey Blackett-Taylor in the last week amid Amario Cozier-Duberry’s injury.
However, it looks like complications will occur for the Trotters with a deal for one of their key targets now in jeopardy, with Huddersfield joining their pursuit for Ryan Hardie.
Huddersfield Town Join Ryan Hardie Chase
Hardie has had a difficult time since joining Wrexham in the summer. Largely victim to the forms of Kieffer Moore and Josh Windass, the striker is more than proven at Championship and top-end League One level.
With only six league appearances for Wrexham, the 28-year-old appears set to depart today in search of regular game time elsewhere.
However, according to reports from Football League World, Liam Manning is keen to add to his frontline today with Hardie now on the West Yorkshire club’s radar.
With Bolton’s interest in the striker well-established, it poses a difficult decision for the Scotsman. Hardie has played under the Bolton coach, Stephen Schumacher, before, where his 13 goal contributions were pivotal to Argyle’s title victory in 2023.
However, the Terriers are particularly short of striking options after sanctioning Joe Taylor’s loan move to Wigan Athletic earlier this month, meaning gametime at the Accu Stadium could be easier to come by.
A Late Transfer Twist
Hardie’s destination could become pivotal by May, with Huddersfield and Bolton both battling for promotion.
The striker has regularly contributed upwards of ten goals and is a hard-working frontman with a wealth of experience at the top end of League One.
It would still not be a surprise to see Hardie’s move to Bolton go ahead as planned, given his familiarity with Schumacher.
Currently, it is unclear whether any move for Hardie would be a permanent deal or a loan exit. However, his time at Wrexham could certainly become even more limited, given the club’s current pursuit of Barnsley’s Davis Keillor-Dunn, which looks likely to go ahead.
