Huddersfield Town man Cameron Ashia is attracting attention from clubs in the Championship and the Scottish Premiership

Hearts and Rangers are the two teams north of the border credited with an interest in the Terriers attacker.

But, according to Simon Jones from the Daily Mail, there are also English clubs circling ahead of the summer transfer window.

Stop-Start Campaign

When analysing Ashia’s season to date, it is difficult at first to see why the 20-year-old is in such high demand. He has started just twice in League One this season, with just 431 minutes to his name across 17 league appearances. But three goals and three assists in that time is a pretty special feat, averaging a goal contribution every 72 minutes.

He also added two knockout goals to his tally in Huddersfield’s run to the EFL Trophy quarter-finals, along with scoring against second-tier Leicester City in the League Cup earlier this campaign. After starting against Exeter City last month, providing an assist in a score draw with the Grecians, he was then left out of the Terriers’ side for the next five matches.

But he has since returned with four impressive cameos this month, grabbing a late equaliser moments after coming off the bench against Blackpool. And on Saturday, he made an even quicker impact by assisting Ryan Hardie’s winner against Barnsley to cement their spot in the play-off places. Following an impressive spell with Derby County U18’s, this is certainly turning out to be Ashia’s breakout campaign in the professional game.

Huddersfield Targeting Championship Return

Interest from the top two clubs in Scotland could be difficult to turn down, particularly with Champions League football a very real possibility for both next season. But keeping clubs in England at bay may be a little easier if the West Yorkshire outfit were able to secure promotion back to the Championship this season.

Signing the above-mentioned Hardie was hoped to be the catalyst for an assault on the automatic promotion places in the third tier, but that hasn’t transpired. And after Liam Manning’s unbeaten run came to an end earlier this month, successive league defeats had left the Terriers hanging on to the final play-off place. Saturday’s victory over their Yorkshire counterparts has now opened up a four-point gap to seventh-place Reading.

But the majority of the chasing pack still have a game in hand on the Terriers, while an 18-point deficit to Lincoln City in second means their hopes of automatic promotion are certainly over. Nevertheless, three more fixtures in the end-of-season competition could allow Ashia to further showcase his talent to a wider audience. And if his recent substitute appearances are anything to go by, then he will be knocking on Manning’s door in the hope of a run in the starting line-up in the coming weeks.
