League One play-off hopefuls Reading have had a second bid accepted by Colchester United for sought-after winger Kyreece Lisbie.
The Royals have persisted in signing the 22-year-old, reportedly after their initial bid was rejected by the U’s.
The former Brentford man’s strong form this season has driven Danny Cowley’s side, with his ten goals helping them secure a mid-table spot.
According to Ramy Abou-Setta of the Reading Chronicle, the Royals appear to have beaten other interested parties, Oxford United and Luton Town, having had a bid accepted just hours from the transfer deadline.
Reading Looking To Chase Down Play-Off Places
Leam Richardson’s side currently sit tenth in the League One table, eight points outside of the coveted play-off positions. The Berkshire side have been busy in the winter window, having already brought in the likes of Will Keane, Ryan Nyambe, and Haydon Roberts from the league above, as well as the highly-rated Benn Ward from Accrington Stanley.
They are currently enjoying an impressive run of form that has seen them lose just once in their nine league games. However, determined not to rest on their laurels, the positive and direct attributes boasted by Lisbie may be well worth the reported estimated fee of £750,000.
The necessity for reinforcements in the wide areas has been exacerbated by the unfortunate injury suffered by Daniel Kyerewaa in the recent 2-2 draw at Exeter City.
Despite the setback, Reading continued their growing momentum with a professional 2-0 away win at Northampton Town on Saturday. With the feel good factor at the Select Car Leasing Stadium flowing, the high profile transfer couldn’t have arrived at a better time for Lisbie.
Colchester United To Sell Their Top Scorer
The seemingly imminent departure of Lisbie may represent a significant dent to the U’s own play-off aspirations. As time dwindles to find a replacement, the Essex side will need to rally and discover alternative avenues to scoring goals.
The midfielder has contributed 15 goal involvements from the right flank this term, placing him comfortably as their most productive outlet.
His ability to drive the team forward directly enhances the productivity of his teammates, often forcing opponents to double-up on him which in turn creates space for his colleagues. It is his selfless work rate that have no doubt piqued the interest of the Reading head coach, as well as Jack Wilshere and Matt Bloomfield.
As Reading seeks subtle difference-makers in their late-season playoff push, Lisbie can take heart from the belief and faith the Royals are placing in him.
