Cambridge United have confirmed the signing of former Rotherham United defender Sean Raggett on a deal until the end of the current campaign.

The giant defender found game time at the AESSEAL New York Stadium, despite the struggles endured by The Millers this season.

Harris Delighted To Capture Raggett

Following relegation from League One last season, Cambridge United have made an impressive fist of earning an immediate return to the third tier and find themselves sitting second in League Two.

The U’s are six points behind leaders Bromley and on a superb run of six straight league wins, with Harris’s side not tasting defeat since late October.

Former Millwall manager Harris is delighted to have added the former Portsmouth man to the ranks at the Cledara Abbey Stadium. He told the official club website:

“I am delighted with the acquisition of Sean Raggett to boost the defensive ranks.”

“He brings huge experience, not only at this level but of competing at this stage of the season to be successful.”

“He will add aggression, composure and ability into our defensive unit, and I look forward to seeing his qualities within the group.”

Raggett has made just nine League One outings for Rotherham United this season, and has only started once since August. He was thrilled to make the move south and join the promotion chasers.

“As soon as I heard about the interest, I wanted to come down here, and I am delighted to get it over the line. I spoke with the manager and got that feeling that this would be a great place for me to play my football.”

“The boys have been doing fantastic recently, so I will come in to try and help as I can. I feel great and in really good shape. I’ll be ready to be called upon when needed.”

Defensive Reinforcement Bolsters Promotion Hunt

Raggett is no stranger to promotion, having won the National League title with Lincoln City in 2017 and the League One title with Portsmouth in 2024. The 32-year-old will be hopeful that his experience and promotion know-how will help The U’s continue their impressive form and return to League One.

With Neil Harris preferring to play with three central defenders, Raggett’s signing is a welcome one, as the only central defensive option on the bench in previous weeks has been Zeno Ibsen Rossi, who has featured on a handful of occasions this season.
