A turbulent return home following a 3-1 defeat at Lorient has forced Nice to denounce the behaviour of a large group of their own supporters after players and staff were physically confronted at the club’s training base.
Players surrounded as hostility escalates
Reports in France state that around 400 fans blocked the team bus, lit flares, chanted hostile songs and heckled several individuals as tensions spilled over on Sunday night. Forwards Terem Moffi and Jeremie Boga, along with sporting director Florian Maurice, were among those targeted during a confrontation that lasted about 45 minutes.
French media report that Boga has been on medical leave since Monday as a result of the incident. One supporter was even allowed to board the bus to speak to staff, while head coach Franck Haise attempted to engage with those gathered outside.
Club responds with firm denunciation
The club issued a strong statement acknowledging supporter frustration but stressing that the behaviour crossed a clear line.
“The club understands the frustration generated by the succession of poor performances and performances far removed from its values.
“However, the incidents that occurred during this gathering are unacceptable. Several club members were targeted. OGC Nice offers them its full support and condemns these acts in the strongest possible terms.”
Club president Fabrice Bocquet was not present during the incident, leaving senior staff and coaching figures to handle the escalating situation.
