Rotherham United boss Lee Clark has provided a key injury update ahead of his side’s crucial South Yorkshire derby with Barnsley.

The Millers were defeated by the bottom-of-the-table side, Port Vale, on Tuesday night. It was a defeat that made relegation to League Two look even more likely.

Clark’s side are 11 points off safety with two games in hand over 20th-place Blackpool

Their poor position means their next six games are all must-win games, starting with their home game against local rivals Barnsley.

Ahead of the start of their crucial run-in, Clark has provided Millers’ fans with a Rotherham United injury update.

Rotherham United Injury Update

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, manager Clark confirmed that his side will have Jordan Hugill back available:

“We’re getting a couple back. I think Jordan Hugill is going to be available.

“Whether we can start him is another matter.”

On the possibility of other players being back available for the games against the Tykes, he said:

“Then there’s possibilities of one or two others [to come back].

“Denzel [Hall] got a big 20 minutes into him so that bodes well and things are starting to improve on that side in terms of the numbers.

“We’re looking positive.”

Clark did confirm that one Rotherham player has an issue and could miss the game:

“We’ve got a little issue with Ar’Jany [Martha] who I had to take off because he had an illness which he’s still got, so he hasn’t been in today. We’ll keep monitoring him.”

Return of Denzel Hall and Jordan Hugill

The return of Denzel Hall against Port Vale was a positive in a game that was a nightmare for all related to the Millers.

Hall played 18 minutes and received a 6.8 rating from Sofascore. Over this season, he has an average Sofascore rating of 6.69.

Hugill hasn’t had the season he would have probably hoped for. The forward has scored just two goals in 25 appearances in League One. His performances have received an average Sofascore rating of 6.46.

If the Millers are to pull off a miracle and beat the drop this season, they will need Hugill to find some form and score some goals to help keep them in the league.
