Portsmouth are keen to add to their squad before the transfer window closes at 11pm tonight and are working on a deal for a League One forward.
Pompey easily avoided relegation last season, ensuring three consecutive seasons in the second tier. This season they will likely be keen to avoid the relegation battle and progress to midtable.
They’ve had a mixed start to the Championship season, winning one and losing two of their opening three games. Those results leave them 15th in the table.
With just one day left in the transfer window, Portsmouth are working to agree a deal to sign League One forward Tyrese Shade to bolster their attack.
Portsmouth Want Burton Albion’s Tyrese Shade
Pete O’Rourke has shared on his X account that Portsmouth are in talks with Burton Albion to agree a deal for Shade.
The 26-year-old has enjoyed a steady rise in the game. From spells in non-league with Solihull Moors and Eastleigh, to earning his Football League shot with Burton, via a loan at Swindon Town.
Nine Goals in League One
Shade enjoyed a positive season last campaign. The forward scored 12 goals in all competitions, including nine in the league as Burton avoided relegation.
In League One, he received a 6.75 average rating from Sofascore. Alongside his nine goals, he averaged 2.2 shots per game and 1.1 shots on target per game, missing 14 big chances across the season.
Shade also registered one assist in the league campaign, as well as creating one big chance and averaging 0.8 key passes per game.
That season came on the back of an eye-catching season in the National League for Eastleigh. The attacker scored 14 goals and picked up six assists, receiving an average rating of 7.1. That season ultimately earned him a move to Burton.
A Risk Worth Taking for Portsmouth?
If the deal is right, it could be a smart move by Portsmouth as they look to add more firepower to their lineup.
Shade is unproven at Championship level, but he’s continued to score goals even when he made the jump from National League to League One.
If he carries that into the second tier, Pompey will have a player coming into his prime with time to develop still.
