Peterborough United are believed to be leading the race to sign Colchester United star Kyreece Lisbie.
The U’s winger was one of their star players last season, combining with striker Micah Mbick to help the Essex club steer well clear of any relegation worries.
Family Reunion Touted
However, Danny Cowley may struggle to hang on to the 22-year-old beyond this summer, with interest re-emerging for his services.
January saw Belgian Pro League side Zulte Waregem try and take him to the continent, while Reading saw a deadline day deal collapse in the final stages after Colchester pulled the plug on any moves.
Now, according to the Reading Chronicle, Peterborough United have now moved to the front of the queue to sign Lisbie, lining up a family reunion with his brother Kyrell at Posh.
While the Royals have reignited their interest in the former Braintree Town man, and are believed to be his preferred destination, Luke Williams’ outfit have made pushes over the past month to try and strike a deal as part of their rebuild following a disappointing League One campaign.
It is believed that a substantial six-figure fee will be enough for Colchester to sanction a sale, with the Chronicle stating that the fee would be within the £500,000 to £750,000 range, and that Reading are reluctant to match that price range.
Lisbie has had a breakthrough season in the EFL with the U’s, playing 51 times across all competitions, with 11 goals and seven additional assists to his name, with only Jack Payne having more contributions within the squad.
Posh’s Track Record Could Prove Pivotal
Peterborough United and their ability to turn players into stars is perhaps the best of any side in the EFL, which may be the move Kyreece Lisbie needs in order to progress his career.
While Reading have a similar success rate with players like Michael Olise coming through their ranks, Posh have proven time and time again under Darragh MacAnthony that they can make a good player into a great one.
A move to London Road would also see him link up with brother Kyrell, who has formed partnerships with in the past at Braintree and Cray Valley, and could be a recipe for success at Peterborough.
Luke Williams has been tasked with a major rebuild this summer after a torrid campaign, and the Lisbie brothers could be the spark they need out wide to replicate the success of players like Malik Mothersille, Kwame Poku and Ricky-Jade Jones.
