Leicester City Could Lose Player to Championship Side

Leicester City could be set to lose one of their players to a Championship side before the end of the window.

The Foxes haven’t made the best start to their League One campaign. Russell Martin’s side drew their opening game against Notts County before a surprise defeat to Burton Albion.

While several players have left, freeing up the wage bill to rebuild their squad, others are still attracting interest and could leave next week.

One such player is midfielder Hamza Choudhury. The Bangladesh international has featured in both of the Foxes’ league games this season, although both came from the bench. Now the midfielder could be set to depart Leicester for Derby County.

Derby County Target Leicester City’s Hamza Choudhury

The Daily Telegraph’s Mike McGrath has reported that Championship side Derby County have made a move to sign Choudhury. The Rams are keen to improve their squad after an 8th place finish last season.

No indication has been given as to whether this will be a loan or a permanent deal. However, Choudhury has previously had loans away from the Foxes, at Sheffield United and Watford.

Championship Regular Last Season

After spending the 2024/25 season on loan at Sheffield United, the former England U21 midfielder returned to the Foxes and became a regular in their squad.

The 28-year-old featured 30 times for Leicester, starting just 17 times and receiving an average Sofascore rating of 6.77.

Choudhury failed to register a single assist or goal as his side suffered back-to-back relegations despite still having a strong side. He did end the season with 0.9 interceptions per game, 1.7 tackles per game, 1.9 clearances per game, and recovered 1.6 balls per game.

A Good Addition for Derby County

Despite showing great potential when his career started, the midfielder has had struggles in recent years. He’s been loaned out and found himself on the bench more often than not.

Even considering that, it’s a smart move by Derby County. He has international, Premier League, and Championship experience, something that can be valuable to any side.

Adding his ability to their side could enhance their Championship play-off hopes after one draw and one defeat in their first two games.
