Leicester City have reportedly sent scouts to watch IFK Göteborg midfielder Oliver Månsson, with Manchester United and Roma among several clubs monitoring the highly rated teenager. The 17-year-old impressed during Wednesday’s 1-1 draw with Djurgården, adding to growing speculation about his future in Sweden.
According to Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet, representatives from Leicester, Manchester United, Roma, Freiburg and Watford attended the match at Gamla Ullevi.
Månsson produced an assured performance in central midfield, continuing a breakthrough season that has attracted attention across Europe. However, there is no indication that Leicester or any other interested club have submitted a formal offer.
Leicester Among Clubs Monitoring Göteborg Prospect
Born in August 2009, Månsson began his career with IF Böljan before joining Göteborg’s academy at the age of 12. He signed a senior contract in March 2026 and has since established himself in the first team.
The midfielder’s composure, passing ability and decision-making have earned praise in Sweden, particularly given his limited senior experience.
Speaking to Aftonbladet after Wednesday’s draw, Månsson welcomed the attention from European clubs.
“It’s great that the clubs are here. If they’re watching me, it’s confirmation that I’ve done well. But I’m focusing on the here and now,” he said, translated from Swedish.
The teenager also admitted that playing for one of Europe’s leading clubs would be a dream, revealing that Barcelona are a particular favourite of his family. According to Sport Witness, Göteborg teammate Sam Larsson has also praised Månsson’s maturity and intelligence on the ball.
Göteborg Chief Discusses Potential Record Transfer
Göteborg sporting director Jesper Jansson believes Månsson could eventually command a fee exceeding the club-record sum received for Malick Yalcouyé.
Yalcouyé joined Brighton in 2024 for a reported fee approaching 100 million Swedish kronor (approximately £7.6 million), but Jansson believes Månsson could prove even more valuable.
Speaking to Aftonbladet, Jansson highlighted the teenager’s age, consistency and European Union passport as factors that could increase his transfer value. However, he confirmed that Göteborg have yet to receive any concrete approaches regarding the midfielder.
Månsson remains under contract until December 2028, giving the Swedish club a strong negotiating position should formal discussions begin. His age could also complicate a potential move to England. International transfer restrictions generally prevent overseas players under 18 from joining English clubs, meaning Månsson would ordinarily have to wait until August 2027 before completing a transfer.
For Leicester, identifying emerging talent before his reputation grows further could provide an opportunity to compete with wealthier clubs in the transfer market. However, with Manchester United and several European sides also watching, Leicester may face significant competition if their scouting interest develops into a formal transfer pursuit.
