League One clubs are exploring potential January moves for Bolton Wanderers‘ Aaron Morley with his future at the Trotters uncertain.
The 25-year-old made the switch to Greater Manchester from back in 2022 from Rochdale, but has seemingly fallen out of favour over the past two seasons, being loaned out to Wycombe Wanderers last campaign, and has not featured for Steven Schumacher’s side since December’s FA Cup tie against Swindon Town.

According to the Bucks Free Press, Morley’s former side in Wycombe could launch a permanent move for his services in January, just 12 months removed from his last appearance for the Adams Park side.
The midfielder was present when Bolton travelled south to Buckinghamshire this weekend, but was spotted training alone ahead of the match. It marked his third straight game without being named in the matchday squad.

However, Wycombe are not alone in pursuing Morley, with Luton Town also named as an interested party for his services. The Trotters are believed to have an asking price of £500,000 to secure his services in the new year.
Under Michael Duff, Wanderers have saw a shift in their midfield roles, with Luke Leahy given more chances to play an advanced role, with summer signings Ewan Henderson and Jamie Mullins playing supporting roles for the former Shrewsbury Town man.
Both transfer rivals in Wycombe and Luton face off on Boxing Day, with both sides looking to close the gap to the top six.
Is A Return The Right Thing?
Bringing back Aaron Morley to Wycombe Wanderers might feel like an obvious move given how successful he was while on loan. Under Matt Bloomfield, the midfielder became an integral part of their promotion push under Matt Bloomfield.
Bolton Wanderers have perhaps stifled his progress by refusing a loan extension to the end of the season, but he still delivered for the Trotters with seven goal contributions from 19 matches upon returning to Greater Manchester.
Under Duff, Wycombe have a very solid partnership in the middle, but with their relative inexperience in the EFL, bringing in support for Ewan Henderson and Jamie Mullins may be the right thing to do.
While a large transfer fee may cause a stumbling block in a deal, reuniting Aaron Morley with his former teammates could be a great move to help them seal a playoff place for the second straight season.
