Huddersfield Town Boss Highlights Key Factor Behind Luton Town Draw

Martin Drury believed that it was Huddersfield Town‘s final third play which cost them a chance to extend their advantage at the top of the League One table against Luton Town.

The Terriers came from behind to salvage a point at home against the travelling Hatters, with Joe Taylor entering double digits for the season with an exquisite second-half goal to level the score.

It was a result which maintained Huddersfield’s five-point cushion on the third-placed Luton ahead of the FA Cup break, in which the Yorkshire side will welcome Exeter City to the Accu Stadium.

Drury Laments Wasted Opportunities

Despite scoring the most goals of any League One side so far this campaign, it was a troublesome night for the side in blue and white up front.

Speaking on what he believed was the decisive factor which cost his side all three points, Drury told the Yorkshire Post that it should not detract from the Hatters’ performance.

“I thought we were absolutely dominant in the first half, got to their box numerous times, hit the post, hit the bar.

“We probably just lacked that little bit of decision-making in key moments for us. I felt we were trying to almost find the perfect angle to shoot tonight and not use their defenders to help us, whether it be through the legs or shape one round in.

“We were looking for a little bit more perfection and clear-cut chances, but Luton defended well.

“In the second half, I thought we started really well. We were strong, we were dominant, scored a fantastic goal. From there on, I thought we were in the ascendancy and I thought we’d go on to win.

“But, again, take nothing away from them, they defended the box really well.”

Hosts Bound To Bounce Back

In what was no doubt going to be one of the most competitive fixtures Huddersfield Town faced all season, it was perhaps frustrating that they could not clinch that perfect result against Luton Town.

Jack Wilshere’s side, also challenging for an automatic promotion, have proven they can put any team to the sword and it seemed that they managed to cancel each other out in a tight contest.

Martin Drury’s side have already stated their case as why they are the team to beat this season, and with an eight-game unbeaten streak under their belt, confidence will be through the roof for the following weeks.

While some delays may come given international fixtures, there is no reason why Town won’t be as explosive as they have been up front in their next match against a Leicester City side that have struggled for much of this season.
