Henrik Pedersen has said he is confident he can win back the Sheffield Wednesday fanbase’s support after some sections of their support called for him to go in the wake of their loss to South Yorkshire rivals Doncaster Rovers.
Grant McCann’s side handed the Owls a 2-0 defeat at the Eco-Power Stadium on Saturday, further denting the visitors’ credentials as promotion hopefuls after a subpar performance which led to the ire of some of the travelling support.
Pedersen Eager To Turn Over A New Leaf
It was an afternoon to forget for Wednesday, with booing and sack calls being brought down onto the team throughout their tough day in Doncaster, which ended with their second straight League One defeat and knocked them out of the playoff places come full time.
Speaking to the Sheffield Star’s Liam Norcliffe in the wake of the loss, Henrik Pedersen was directly asked if he could win back the waning support of the fanbase at Hillsborough.
“I feel the anger like you feel the anger because we are not happy after a great result Saturday at home and then we have two lost in two games. Of course I feel the same anger.
“I’m hurting because it’s not who we want to be. We want to be a dominant team from the first to the last moment, not only a second half or period of the game. We we want to have higher standard through 90 minutes. It’s hurt me really that we miss something here, and yeah, this is what we want to work on to to increase very quickly.”

“(On whether he can win the fanbase back around) Of course. I burn for this football club. I love this football club. I can feel that we are close – the players and me – and we are ready to come out of this.”
It is a short turnaround for Pedersen and his side, facing off against surprise playoff contenders Cambridge United at home on Tuesday night before welcoming struggling Blackpool to South Yorkshire at the weekend.
Is It Time Up For Pedersen?
The coming days are now pivotal for Henrik Pedersen and his prospects of managing Sheffield Wednesday in the short term.
Two straight losses, combined with some dropped points elsewhere through the season, have left the Owls fans displeased with what they’ve seen on the pitch, and given their lofty ambitions and expectations, it feels that the Dane has much to do to convince his supporters he is the right man.

Cambridge United could be the final nail in the coffin if Wednesday cannot return to winning ways, and the pressure will certainly be on for the manager to try and bounce back from both the Doncaster and Notts County setbacks.
While he should certainly be applauded for what he has done for the club over the past year, helping them stay afloat on the pitch despite all the chaos going on around him, he now has to prove to some that he can do more than just survive.
