The Championship once again delivered rude awakenings and surprise results in Week Two, showing that the season is back and, once again, never being taken for granted.
GK – Jack Bonham – Bolton Wanderers
In a 0-0 away draw at QPR, Bonham provided a solid goalkeeping performance to ensure the Trotters took a valuable point on the road as they adapt to life back in the second tier.
RB – Daniel Imray – Wrexham
Following a big-money move from Crystal Palace, Imray has enjoyed a strong start to life in Wales. His first goal came in Wrexham’s 1-1 draw at home to Watford, earning him a man-of-the-match performance in Phil Parkinson’s side.
CB – Jake Cooper – Millwall
In a triumphant 3-0 home win over Norwich City, Cooper was once again reliable at the back, making a handful of defensive contributions that provided the platform for the win. The 31-year-old also assisted Taïryk Arconte for his second goal.
CB – Lloyd Jones – Charlton Athletic
In a shock 2-1 win away at West Ham, Jones was man-of-the-match worthy as he scored the opening goal after seven minutes before later producing a quality defensive performance to help Charlton to an impressive 2-1 win.
LB – Ryan Manning – Southampton
The 30-year-old was a top performer as Southampton beat Stoke City 3-1, with the full-back making numerous tackles and touches in the box. To top off the performance, Manning scored a 94th-minute penalty to secure the three points.
CM – Bobby Clark – Derby County
The Liverpool academy graduate is back at the Rams after an impressive spell last term, and their 2-2 draw with Cardiff City showcased his talent as he scored the equalising goal and assisted Carlton Morris for his first of the Championship campaign.
CM – Fer López – Wolverhampton Wanderers
The Spaniard was the standout performer as Wolverhampton Wanderers clicked into gear with a 3-1 win away at Preston North End. López scored a well-timed brace, showcasing his quality and why he is highly sought after.
CM – Isaac Price – West Bromwich Albion
Following a breakout campaign last term, which saw Price among the EFL’s brightest young talents, he got right back into gear as he scored twice in West Brom’s 3-1 win over recently relegated Burnley, with a well-timed finish and a penalty securing all three points.
RW – Taïriyk Arconte – Millwall
The Guadeloupe international winger announced himself in a fantastic first home league display. Arconte scored twice and provided a constant threat down the left-hand side as Millwall beat Norwich City 3-0.
ST – Andri Gudjohnsen – Blackburn Rovers
The Icelandic international was among the standouts in Blackburn Rovers’ triumphant 2-1 win over promotion hopefuls Middlesbrough. Gudjohnsen scored the equaliser and provided a target up front to help the team out of trouble.
LW – Tyreece Campbell – Charlton Athletic
The 22-year-old academy product was part of a wider fantastic performance from Nathan Jones’s side. Campbell was a brilliant outlet in the defensive block, making numerous defensive efforts while also scoring the winner in their 2-1 win away at West Ham.
