Bristol Rovers are set to sign Bobby Kamwa after the Newport County forward agreed a pre-contract with the League Two club, as reported by Bristol Live.
Newport confirmed last week that Kamwa had rejected an improved contract offer, with his current deal due to expire at the end of June. The 26-year-old has now turned down a new deal with the struggling Exiles and is expected to make the switch to Rovers ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
According to Bristol Live, Kamwa had interest from six EFL clubs but has chosen Rovers following talks with controversial boss Steve Evans. The report claims the pair held a four-hour meeting in Leeds, with discussions understood to have played a key role in the player’s decision.
Kamwa had become one of Newport’s most important attacking players, particularly during the closing stages of last season. His form proved crucial as the Exiles fought to preserve their League Two status, with three goals in the final two matches helping Christian Fuchs’ side avoid relegation.
That run included a brace in a 3-2 win against Oldham Athletic before he scored an 83rd-minute winner against Barrow on the final day. Those contributions gave Newport a vital late lift, but they have been unable to persuade him to stay.
The attacker came through the Leeds United academy after joining the club at 13, but did not make a senior appearance for the Whites. He gained first-team experience on loan at Dunfermline Athletic during the second half of the 2021/22 season before joining Burton Albion permanently later that year.
At Burton, Kamwa made 47 appearances and scored four times in League One. He then joined Newport in August 2024, where he produced 14 goals and nine assists across 95 appearances during his time in South Wales.

The former Stamford, Boston United, Crawley Town, Rotherham United, Leeds United, Mansfield Town, Peterborough United, Gillingham, and Stevenage boss often has a solidifying effect when he first goes into a side.
That’s often followed by a period of pack shuffling, where many players come and go. That churn can lead to success, as he showed with Gillingham and Stevenage, but it can also lead to financial overreaching and stagnation, as he displayed at Rotherham and Mansfield. Gas fans will be hoping it is not the latter.
